Self Drilling Screw- Lesson 101 (Part-2)

001

Materials can be divided into:

Carbon Steel 1022A, Stainless steel 410, Stainless steel 304.

002

1. Carbon steel Self Drilling Screw, 1022A. Standard heat-treated steel can be used as a material for the production of drill tail screws. After heat treatment, the surface hardness is HV560-750 and the core hardness is HV240-450. Ordinary surface treatment is easy to rust, has high hardness and low cost.

003

2. Stainless steel Self Drilling Screw, 410, can be heat treated, and their rust resistance is better than carbon steel, but worse than stainless steel 304.

004

3. Stainless steel Self Drilling Screw, 304, cannot be heat treated, have strong rust resistance, low hardness, and high cost. They can only drill aluminum plates, wooden boards, and plastic boards.

005

4. Bi- Metal Self Drilling Screw, the drill bit is made of carbon steel, and the thread and head are made of 304 stainless steel.

006

The design of the drill (Tek) tail allows the Self Drilling Screw/construction type to integrate the three functions of “drilling”, “tapping” and “fastening” at the same time. Its surface hardness and core hardness are a little higher than ordinary self-tapping screws. This is because the Self Drilling Screw/construction type has an additional drilling function, which can effectively save construction time and costs, so it is increasingly used in many industrial and daily life applications.

007

Drill – the tail end part of the drill bit shape, which can directly drill holes on the surface of the opponent part

Tapping – the self-tapping part other than the drill bit, which can directly tap the hole to create internal threads

Lock – No need to drill holes in advance to achieve the main purpose of screws: locking objects

008

How Self-Drilling Screws are Used?

009

The versatile and practical self-drilling screw has been in use for many years as a method for connecting materials. Since self-drilling screws do not require a pilot hole, they can rapidly and efficiently connect a variety of materials, which enhances productivity and performance.

The types and varieties of self-drilling screws makes them applicable to a variety of construction and fabricating operations. From applying metal roofing to finishing assemblies, self-drilling screws have become a valuable tool in manufacturing, fabrication, and production.

In error, many people believe that self-tapping and self-drilling screws are the same, when in fact they have different construction. The difference between them has to do with their point. The point of a self-drilling screw has a curved end that is shaped like a twist drill. Self-tapping screws are described as thread forming or cutting screws and can have a point that is pointed, blunt, or flat.
